Did you know: Old mate ‘let’s ecologise neoliberal world capitalism in one country’ Adam Bandt wrote a doctoral thesis in law. It was on like the Soviet legal theorist, Evgeny_Pashukanis. Stalin was a bit, ner are you a crypto-Trotskyist, so the old left loves Pashkuanis now.

Bandt was obviously down with the crypto-Trotskist laboring under old mate Big Joe. Down enough to point out along the way that the Australian Greens are on the side of making endless growth work on a finite planet, rolling extractivist class hierarchy turds in sustainability glitter, and such other, you know, fundamental capitalisms.

This made sense to me, personally. Still, at one point, while I was in Sydney I did some research that turned into the following. The Greens came out ahead of the pack by my measure, and I don’t even like them that much.

Except for that part about reports of internal pileons and mass Facebook defriendings and the like.

But like I argued in the piece, singling the Greens out on that count is about as fair as saying all Jews are terrorists because of the ethnofascists. Generalisations about Jews are about as insane as assuming any political stripe known doesn’t solve doctrinal conflicts with inquisitions, witchhunt and purges. Forgiveness for conformity, tough love for defiance. Collective paranoia to glue society together like a bundle of sticks.

Respectable politics seems to take its lead from bourgeois law in many respects, swinging on a pendulum between apology and utopia. For sure we can have endless growth on a finite planet; if you dabble in historical research that says otherwise, you’re clearly some kind of maladjusted faggot who needs to be purged back onto the dole queue.

When the ruling-class law isn’t deflecting, it’s rolling extractivist instrumentalist turds in European Civilising Mission glitter–the true narrative that built the modern world. Using perennial emergency politics and perennial conspiracist scapegoating for resource grabs. And so on.

There would for sure seem to be issues with international law, even if it hadn’t failed the Palestinians.

Idk though. Few questions: for starters, which part of Marxist law is the withering away of the state? The other thing I guess, did that law doctorate help Adam Bandt in becoming national leader of the Greens at all. An international system that rubber stamps predation, military aggression and extractivism is bad, except for when it’s good I guess.

Oh yeah and are internal inquisitions, witchhunts and purges useful to Respectable Greens yet?

I suspect they might be, somehow.

I was in student meetings with Bandt in living rooms around Northcote more than once in the 1990s. We were both members of a student group called Left Alliance. For the record. Never actually met the dude hey.

PS Do you need marxist law to administer a marxist bureaucracy?
