Australia introduced a world-first ban on children younger than 16 holding accounts on platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Reddit, Facebook and YouTube in late 2025.
While the government says more than five million social media accounts have been deleted, research suggests children are easily skirting age verification and other restrictions put in place by the platforms.
As many as 85 per cent of children younger than 16 reported using social media after the ban came into force, according to recent University of Newcastle-led research.
Yeah. Why would they not. All you need to do is install a free VPN like Hoxx in your browser and tell whoever you’re in Canada, or Timbuctoo. Definitely not an antipodean playground for Dunning-Krugerite rubes who think groupthink is normal because the social pool is so rarely oxygenated with outside influences.
I already had a VPN installed personally so I could play poker, after the last laughable attempt by the government to ban the internet. Politicians are such fucking losers as a class, why would you encourage them by voting. Does it figure they make scapegoats out of people who can’t vote yet for a society set against and perennially at war with itself by virtue of the class divide between rich and poor? The biggest pieces of shit I’ve run across on the internet personally have been nominal adults. Nominal adults are potential ALP voters though, aren’t they.
You know what else is funny, the way these shit laws were supposed to target under-16s, so the rest of us went, okay well it’s not us, but now you have to give companies more data to prove you’re OVER 16 lol. Wouldn’t be an excuse to harvest data and increase the power of the state-corporate nexus perchance. Because that’s what it looks like.
